Using the Matrix structure is the best way to organize and carry through a major project like this with over 100 workers involved. The Matrix structure is designed for multiple managerial accountability and responsibility (1). The Marriott hotel project should benefit significantly from using the matrix structure because of the complexity and the staffing needed. This project fueled 89 million in construction salary alone. The project has to be balanced by using the chain of command with the function line, and product/product line, working simultaneously; the project will have a better outcome. The project manager and the functional manager will work together for the life of the project under the General Manager, and under them is the project personnel; more titles can be added to the project's complexity. When added complexity and adding a large amount of information, a traditional system would not be able to manage to solve these unique problems. Pinning smaller fragments of the complete projects makes it easier to manage and solve problems better. In order for the Matrix organization to work successfully and for it to be entirely advantageous, the team must make sure the project objective is clear, project integration, efficient use of resources, information flows, retention of disciplinary teams are functioning, high morale, development of project managers, and the project shutdown are known. Understanding the priorities, goals, and conflicts that may arise within the project will better help with managing. The matrix is still the best structure for the Mariott headquarters project.
